Most people find that the second time they listen to something it sounds noticeably better, especially if you expect it to. I've even had times where I made a change and thought it sounded much better only to discover later that I hadn't actually made the change and it should have sounded identical. Best to go back and forth a few times and try to concentrate on the music and not the expectation. It's very easy to fool yourself :-)
