The DCS Elgar uses a crazy "5-bit 64x oversampling" filter. Basically a cross between one-bit and standard filtering.

I think had DCS' DACs used no or simpler filtering, "24/96 upsampling" would have been DOA.... I personally think if asynchronous upsampling improves the sound of DAC, the base design of the DAC isn't so hot.
