You're right! The data in the second file was simply offset by 0x74c bytes. I lined them up and they now compare exactly (with HexEdit). This is using cheap drives of different brands (Matshita internal and Sony external) and a cheap Naxos disc. My faith in science has been restored. I owe you a beer ...
