Here is a quote from an email I got from Peter Qvortrup of Audio Note UK:"I have listened to all the other 18/20/24 bit converter chips that can be
used in the topology that we use in the new DACs and I found the [18-bit Analog Devices] AD1865 was by far the best sounding, so that is what we decided to use. There is a lot in the construction and materials of each chip that may explain the differences in sound, provided one had this information, which we do not."Obviously this applies specifically to the Audio Note DACs and he is biased, but it is still interesting.
