Hi Al,

With all due reciprocal respect, I do not believe the exclusive goal of a cable or connector is to have as little effect as possible on the signal without other considerations being equal. It is *very* important, yes... to a measure. Synergy is not achieved in all systems by selecting only cables that are considered to be the ultimate in transparency. Most of those exeptional cables are far too expensive for most folks to aquire, anyway. Every "affordable" cable has a sonic signature, some less than others, and a nominaly transparent cable's presentation simply might not complement the gestalt of a particular system chain's presentation. Various component's inputs and outputs are different and will respond to different cables/connectors in a remarkable way. Cables that sound fantastic on a $5000 device might sound ruthless on one that cost's $1000. For example; the soundstage that's thrown by a $5000 DAC is often quite a bit different than a $1000 DAC. The soundstage is often huge in comparison and will respond differently to a particular cable configuration. A case in point (in the under $1000 range) is my Nakamichi ST-7 tuner. A low cost pair of Cardas 300B Microtwin (which have a pronounced sonic signature) interconnects "betters" to my ears, more transparent interconnects when used on that device. That is a subjective call and I believe synergistic sound shaping is involved.

my 2 cents

Cheers :-)
