The problem with shields is that they also support RF resonances. The Highwire speaker cables were made with RF-damping materials built in to suppress these resonances. These are no longer made, and rarely come up on Audigon. There may be other designs in present production that do similar things, but I'm not up to date on them.Keep anything ferrite or steel away from your speaker cables, or power cords, for that matter. Their magnetic response is not linear. I tried slipping a couple of ferrite cylinders on some otherwise stock power cords, and they definitely degraded the sound of the amps to which they were connected.
If you have anything like this in your present setup, listen to what happens when you place a permanent magnet on it.
