DIY Cables vs. Commercial Cable

Hi fellow DIYers,
I am presntly using the Nordost Flatline Gold Biwire Speaker cable.
And am wanting to DIY spk cables, of course in the hope of getting sound improvements in my system (Marantz-CD67SE, AudioResearch-LS8 preamp, Aragon-8008BB, PMC FB-1 Spk, Belden89259 0.5m interconnect).
Particular improvement i'm seeking is to tame the slight brightness in my system.
(1)Anyone have the same Nordost Spk cable and done any of the DIY projects (eg.CAT5,UBYTE-2) for comparison ?
(2)How does CAT5 compare with the UBYTE-2 ?
