I did use nickel. Tried the copper first, came out more orange than copper. Kind of like a spray on tan. Used steel wool to get as much copper off as possible, then did the nickel plate. The trany was the real work. I filed it as flat as possible. Then honed each side to a mirror finish, blued and lacquerd. Looks great, but way more work than I will ever do again. I'll use your “half-assed approach†next time.
Now, how do do you like the sound?
