While trying to find the source of a hum in my system I encountered a problem with an Monster HTS2000 Power conditioner. I had un-plugged it to try a cheater plug which did not elimnate the hum. When I plugged the unit back in there was a serious spark, which toasted the output stage of a sunfire signature sub. The rest of my gear is plugged into an HTS3000 on the other end of the room in a seperate outlet and did not seem to suffer any damageI called Monster today to try and determine why the HTS2000 passed that spike down to the Sub. Heres the great part:
They are sending me a replacement HTS2000 and HTS3500 along with a claim form. I return the old units to them and keep the new at no cost! If they determine the unit failed (HTS2000) they will pay for the repair on the Sub as well.
Follow Ups:
While I appreciate that all things are system-dependent, I have an HTS2000 for my stereo and TV setup and it has been a great investment. My equipment is not state-of-the-art: I like to call it "the low end of high-end" (stereo is Rotel, Denon, Teac, Music Hall, Mission, Audioquest, Cardas; visual setup is Samsung and ProScan). With this class of gear, it appreciably improves sound and, to a slightly lesser extent, visuals.I happen to love Arthur Salvatore's web site, and he sings the praises of this unit too--see link below (click on "AC Purifiers" at the top of the page).

with the kind profit margin like Monster Cable, they better keep their customer happy. To spend that kind of money on lamp cord copper wire is ridiculous!Good service is good, no doubt, but that's not the whole picture -- you have to have good PRODUCTS and PRICED accordingly in the first place!
IMHO
The Monster HTS Surge/Filter units are not lamp cord and they are very well made units. I know there are many opinions out there, this is not ment to start a thread about the pro's and cons. I think it should be noted that the customer service dept. responded to my call the same day. It was a relief to know that I might be reimbursed for the damage to the sub woofer and get new replacment units to boot.FYI my system is wired with Transparent cable. Except for one peiceof Monster M1000. I use it between the Ear834p phonoi stage and my preamp. In that position it works well. I tried it between the preamp and amp and it was way to bright.
Yeah Monster Cable is a great company. I wrote to them and complained that the boots on my banana fell a part over time and they sent me all new boots for my plugs...
...your situation will be resolved. Indeed, I'm glad that Monster has found enough time for technical support & customer service. I thought this would be precluded by their busy schedule of filing lawsuits against small business owners, but maybe there is hope afterall!Old news, yes. However, I cannot help but think of this every time someone mentions that company.
Great info. I snickered when I saw that monster's law firm was located on "Ragsdale" street.
Can't forget how predatory they were towards a business with no audio connections whatsoever - not a case of protecting their business, just a case of Monster getting too big for their Monster boots and chasing cash at the expense of the little guy.Of course their technical support still deserve praise for good service and they won't have had anything to do with the litigeous nature of the company they work for, but in my eyes the reputation of Monster is of a greedy, arrogant company whose past conduct should be remembered.
Best Regards,
Chris redmond.
I think I'll pass on the Monster gear!
Add to your comment the fact that Monster spent an inordinate amount of time with me on the phone during several inquiries on the best arrangements for my 2000 and 2500 power conditioners in my system. They even had their chief designer get on the phone to discuss the filtering! It was a extremely helpful and most appreciated.
BTW, the power conditioners made a dramatic improvement.
I second your experience with Monster. The first incident was when my cul de sac was hit by a major power spike. I had a Monster power strip (I think it was the AV700) sacrifice itself to protect the equipment attached to it. A couple of my neighbors didn't get off so lucky. One neighbor had a satellite receiver box get hit so hard that the electronics were literally smoldering. I know there were other things he lost but can't remember. The other neighbor lost a A/V reciever and TV. The common factor between them was that they had some garden variety surge strip protecting their equipment. I called Monster to get the strip warrantied. The customer service rep was very nice. He gave me an RMA number for the strip and asked if I had any damaged equipment so he can setup a claim if needed. I sent out the strip and got the new replacement shipped by Monster via Fedex 2nd day air.My second experience with Monster was when I purchased a demo HTS-3500. After getting the unit home and plugging it in, I found that the power meter bulb wasn't working. So I brought the unit back to the store for warranty repair. After waiting about a month, I finally get the unit back. I go to pick it up and found that Monster just shipped me a brand new unit sealed in the box. Not only was it a new unit but it was the newer version II of the 3500; I had purchased the older version I.
Monster has one happy customer that will give repeat business and promote their products to friends.
