Just purchased Ah from Upscale Audio($from 500+ &end up with $1000+)Since I'm also looking for the best within <$2000 range (tude cdp)
Well,I'm looking for a warm sound so tude is the only way to go .
I seach & seach finally came across this Ah ! Funny name like this should be a more interesting .For the build quality ,I'll say it's a after market shell with a very good upgrade parts . However ,it has all the logical control button on the front & on the remote (better than some very expensive one ,I can say ,though, it's made of plastic ) I can almost operate all the button without light once I know them .Indeed I like to listen to my music in darkness to feel the sound of the singer come to live! It logged in only <60hours & I can only compare my 10+yrs old Revox
costing $1800 10yr+ ago still have plastic panel on each side but for the sound Ah has more live-life human sound .However, for the actual musical instrument placement Ah 's back ground is flat & the high is a little roll off while my revox sound live but thin in human voice .I found a careful choose of cable make some difference between high roll off & tighter bass .
(so I make my own cable which sound better than the $100+ monster cable)
Well I 'll post another update once I get the full break-in of the unit.
ps . some of the so call upgrade such as the 'feet ' to damming vibration ;I find it questionable else I have yet to get more time to prove their value !! I did add the Dynamat to strenghten & daming the unit inside (it works & feels more solid after the treatment ).
Also I connect the cd player diectly to the power tude amp for the max signal best souns feild I can obtain so the remote internal volume control is valuable to me ,much like my revox .
Product Weakness: | $1000 isn't a cheap player but more a real price than the ad.$500+ (a standard player will not do much good )it'll be the same when compare to the mass market cdp . |
Product Strengths: | warm (live-life human ) sound !! very logical control layout . (no wonder this unit is used for after market-moldify unit. possible to tailor sound by changing tubes . |

If you use the Dynamat, make sure it is the Xtreme Dynamat, not the plain Dynamat that's asphalt-based. The Xtreme has aluminum "skin" to protect it from heat, and is supposed to be 4X more effective than the older asphalt version. I put it on the drive mechanism, too. If you load the CDP with the Dynamat, the tube dampers may still help, but probably somewhat redundant.
I've been enjoying my ANT for about eight or ten months. I picked up the Burr-Brown op amps because I'd upgraded my old Sony cd player with a B-B chip and liked the difference. I noticed a tightening up and cleaning up of the sound across the soundstage. I took a chance on a pair of tube dampers from Herbie's at $10 each and they made a *big* improvement in the sound. *Everything* was crisper, cleaner, more focused and the soundstage dramatically increased up and down, left to right and front to back. Amazing. You owe it to yourself to get a pair. You won't be disappointed. I also upgraded the stock JAN tubes which weren't bad to begin with. I picked up a pair of Siemens from Kevin at Upscale which were a big improvement. Then I found a pair of NOS Bugle Boys on e-bay or $10 each. Small but noticeable improvement over the Siemens. All in all, I'm a happy guy.
I assume that a $1000 Ah! NT includes the ~$300 upsampler which makes the op amp upgrade moot--From Upscale: "Ah! Tjoeb Tjoens (Tube Tunes) Op-amp Flavor Kits
Not needed with the TjoUpsampler as all functions are built into the upsampler board."Of course, damping tubes may well be applicable and desirable.

"$500+ (a standard player will not do much good )it'll be the same when compare to the mass market cdp ."
What exactly do you base this statement on???? You would have to have heard the basic Njoe Tjoeb (which retails for $599) and compared it to the stock Marantz CD4000.I'm sitting here, looking at my basic Ah! NT, and can't find the "record" button for the life of me. That must be an upgrade??
Have you listened to the upsampler and Siemens tubes they offer?
