Is there really such a thing as a filterless humidifier (except for the cool mist types that leave a coating on everything)? The warm mist types I've owned had a pad around the heating element that needed to be replaced at least annually. Even the ultrasonic ones I've seen that claim "filterless operation" actually do have a filter to trap impurities in the water, so they are not truly filterless. I've had a Sears Kenmore evaporative filter for several years now. It has a pleated filter thru which the unit's fan draws moisture. These filters need replacing only annually. I've even had the filters go longer than a year without needing replacement.
