I use a D103 and a D160 as well as the Grado Platnum. Each has it's pluses and minuses. The Grado does vocals and acoustic jazz better than the D103 on the two tables I use. But the D103 seems to have a little better bass in my system (mostly warmer and a little more presense). The Grado has a more natural upper end than the D103, but still far from perfect. But these differences are not all that much. The Denon seems to be a little more prone to feed back than the Grado; even though both are effected by it. I also think that the D103 sounds better in unsuspended tables, and worked better with my SME IV tonearm. But with the Graham tonearm I liked the Grado a little better in the lower end (warmer and fuller). I've also found the Denon to be a little selective on the phonostage.
I'll probably move up at least one more rung on the ladder when I buy my next Grado, and I think I'm going to try a Benze or a Black Bird sometime in the near future
