I think the parameters are the same. You can go to higher playing weights on mono records providing the stylus is in good condition.
It's what you define as being a mono cartridge:
- Modern MM stereo strapped for mono - they're still stereo cartridges like the Shure you use for 78s.
- Single channel mono like the Denon DL-102 and vintage cartridges, Goldring 600, GE VR-II and RPX.
- Two channel with the coils orientated to give an identical lateral signal - Lyra Helikon mono.
I like playing mono LPs with a Shure M3D and Pickering 380A switched to mono as well as proper monos - the Denon DL-102 and Goldring 600.
It's the sound of the cartridge and how it works with your system that matters.
Stylus size is also optional: for heavy trackers (4g+) try a 1.0mil just to spread the load. Otherwise a good 0.7mil will be fine, even elliptical and line contact if the record is in good condition.
