RE: Jelco SA-750D VS. Sumiko Premiere MMT

There's been some arm swapping on my two Garrards in the past month - the quick version is that my Michell Tecnoarm - a hot rodded RB250 - has been replaced by a SA-750D.

The Michell was on the 301 and the Jelco is on the 401. Both TTs are in identical plinths and run into the same phono amp so the changes I put down to the arms.

Cartridges I used in the Tecnoarm were an Ortofon MC25FL and MC10 Super. In the Jelco both are sharper, there's more width to the sound and better definition in the bass. It's great with Denon DL-102 and DL-103 cartridges as well.

It's the same with other cartridges with one exception - Shure V15III/SAS. The only arm that it works with for me is the SME 3009 series.

Yesterday I played some 45s from the 60s-90s with a Shure M44-7 in a Sumiko headshell. There was lower surface noise, more detail and better bass definition than in any other arm I've used a M44-7 in.

If you look at my main system you'll see a list of the cartridges and headshells in use.

So for me it's no contest - my 20 years of using Rega RB250 and hot rodded arms has ended. They're good arms but the Jelco is better.
