Don't let the labels get wet and keep the wetting to a minimum - some older 78s are laminated with card and shellac layers. Don't press too hard either - there may be hidden faults that are waiting to break open.
Often the best way to keep 78s clean is to dry brush and just keep playing them. It's more fun than digital transfers.
It's great when it goes around to make a sound.
