RE: To rewire or ro replace a SME 3009 S2 imp arm?

You need to answer a question:

Do you want to play 78s, old mono LPs or beaten up 45s?

If so you could do with a SME3009 S2 not improved or SME3009R - their detachable headshells and wider VTF ranges will be needed. The S2 improved works best with high compliance and low VTF and that's not ideal for old records.

But.....if you are planning on playing stereo or newer mono LPs only go for it - it will be money very well spent. Match it with a Shure V15III cartridge and a new Jico SAS stylus and I think you'll be very happy. Other carts to consider are the V15IV or Stanton 681EEE. I think that the V15V and onwards may not work so well - but others will put you right about that.

Let us know how you get on.
