Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

sounds like it may be stuck in mid auto-cycle -

if so lube up the mech underneath and it should free up. There are a couple of cams and levers that seize when the table isn't used for a while.

Keep the table level and gently rotate the platter by hand until the unit switches off. The platter should then spin freely.

IIRC vinyl engine has a download of the service manual.

I've just got the auto and large hole 45 spindles for my mark 2. But it'll need a strip down and service before they will work properly. As it's 25 years since the last one I don't think that's bad.

They are good auto-tables for their time, and have that Garrard slam. With the fixed cartridge mounting points it's futile to fit anything other than a cartridge with a conical stylus - although I've done it in the past. It will track comfortably at 2grams in single play mode. In the UK the ones I've seen and acquired all had a Shure M55E - but I've successfully used ARCAM C77, AT3100XE, Pickering 380A and Shure M95ED in mine.

The sweetest sounding I've used is the Shure M44-7.

And it's great for 12inch singles. I'd say keep it.
