Grado-s do not hum due to the wiring issues, but due to the lack of shielding, or someone may say Grado-s do not hum, unshielded motors, transformers etc. cause the hum in the Grado-s.
Similar to a shielded cable, shield affects the sound, particularly dynamics and musicality as Grado believes (can't say that I can not agree, as most of the shielded cables and mm cartridges I had chance to hear sound less involving).
Grado trades potential for a hum when used with an unshielded motor turntable (i.e. Rega) with increase in performance.
I have to say that Grado hum was small when I had it on my Rega, and that some other MM cartridges had significantly more hum than Grado at the same table (and they hum at tables that did not with Grado).
Maybe, that is why I like MC cartridges, never had hum problems with them, plus got other goodies?
