Sometimes everything came together on the day no matter how long ago.
There's often no repeatable formula, the ambient temperature was right for the instrument, tape and cutting machines and the engineers and performer were each having a good day. It's probably as simple as that.
The magic is in our ability to hear that good day 57 years on.
I have 78s where the performance is in the room with me. Most pre-1950 78s are direct cut and, coupled with the high rotational speed, are still the best way to hear old performances despite limited frequency range and surface noise.
Glad it worked for you.
