the 88 and 99 have low platters, so whichever arm you use must go low. I have an 88 which currently has an SME3009 on it. In the past it's had a Garrard TPA12, Audio Technica AT1005mk2, Acos Lustre GST1 and Rega RB250.
With the Acos I had to raise the whole turntable chassis so that I could get the VTA right.
Other than that, the only deciding factor is what cartridge you want to use and match the arm with that.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
