Shrink wrap.....

I grew up around London in the 60s and 70s and didn't see shrink wrap on my parents' LPs or when I started buying my own in '74.

Most shops that sold records put the outers on display in the racks and put the record and inner sleeve into a card cover much like the archive ones now sold for 12" 78s. You took the outer to the counter and usually got the right record took take home. A few classical shops still do it with CDs.

Apart from imports from the USA I don't remember seeing shrinkwrap on everyday LPs until the late 80s /early 90s - maybe later.

HOWEVER......... some specialist mail order retailers did advertise, in Gramophone magazine, in the late 50s, that their LPs were "sealed" but what that means I don't know.
