just playing the 78s of the Appassionata now - it's the only Schnabel Beethoven I possess - no IGD or break up.
Japanese pressings? I have 78s of the Bruno Walter/VPO Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on UK HMVs and Japanese Nippon Columbias taken from the same masters. The Columbias appear to be pressed in coarser material, with minute dots of "gold plating" embedded in them, in the dead areas as well.
If only the Historic Masters team would repress the set on vinyl 78s from the original metals (if they still exist) it would be worth that second mortgage.
