I have a 301 and 401 and a Goldring Lenco 88. As the others say, change the arm and put the Lenco in a proper base and you will have a very good TT.
As much as I like the Lenco and won't part with it, my preference is for the Garrards. They have more authority and slam.
Although these decks are idler drive they are fundamentally different, the Garrards drive the inside rim of the platter, while Lencos drive the underside at differing radii depending on the speed. My Lenco is spinning 78s as I type this, it is a very fine turntable.
All idler drives are not equal.
