If you're only going to play 78s:
1. The Stanton 500 is ideal - and you'll need to track at 4-5 grams. I suggest you get a digital stylus scale that'll read up to at least 5 grams. You won't need to balance the arm out and a butt plug may not be necessary.
2. The headshell weight adds mass the cartridge end of the arm, very useful for those higher tracking weights.
3. Don't even think of clamping any non vinyl record.
I've just swapped out all my main system 78 cartridges from SME to Sumiko headshells. The extra mass and solid construction has helped to add weight to the sound. I'm still experimenting with alignment and VTA, slightly tail down seems to be better.
Don't forget that older 78s aren't, they're 60-90+s.
Good luck.
