Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

The late L.J.K. Setright, writing in HiFi World, revealed

that he performed in the recording of Klemperer's Stereo Beethoven 9th. What ired him was that over the years in three EMI UK stereo LP issues the running time varied considerably. Something to do with tape or lathe speed.

Have you read the story about Klemperer and tape mastering?

On being told that he didn't have to re-record a movement, due to a bad note or section, as the engineers could splice the tape and substitute a better section from another take he was disconsolate. It was no longer his performance but the engineers'. He is reported to have turned to Lotte and said "ein schwindel".

Give me direct cut 78s!

Regards
