I understand your dilemma. If you had an arm with detachable headshells I'd suggest you get a cheaper cartridge with a conical tip to play the affected records.
If they are worn, and not particularly valuable in terms of both money and sentiment, it might be cheaper to replace them than buy an equaliser or change any equipment.
Just one thought, are the affected records thinner than the unaffected ones? It might be VTA.
