RE: Listening to Commie Music Today..........................

Tom,

thanks for the compliment. I've had a mono system for about 13 years now after I heard a Bill Haley 78 played on a Garrard 4HF, with a Decca FFSS crystal pickup, through Leak amplification into a single giant Tannoy corner speaker. The bell wire had to the speaker was extended by twisting two lengths together.

It was awesome and I was hooked. Haven't got space for a Tannoy though. Play some stereo LPs through it and be amazed. As you say, everywhere's a sweet spot.

To do justice to 78s you might need a vintage pre-amp with a few different EQ. However I seem to think that Tim de Paravicini offers one or two on his. If you could get him to make a mono one, well!

I'll keep an eye out for Toscanni's Pines of Rome. I've got parts of the the first 78 recording of it (can't recall the orchestra or conductor and my daughter's exhange student is sleeping in the room where they are at the moment) as well as Reiner.

Richard
