Just don't play any valuable or rare records on it .....

I've got a couple UK HMV equivalents, and 30's & 40's electric players. Steel needles, soundboxes and early electric heads are not kind to records, even acoustic ones.

In my copy of the 1929 book "Gramophones and Modern Electric Reproducers" record wear was a big issue, and there are pages devoted to alignment, VTA and VTF and null points, although they didn't call it that then.

If you find records in mint condition, or that are very rare, think of posterity and play them on modern non-destructive equipment. Most pre-war records have no masters and the only way the recordings will survive for future generations is by keeping mint copies mint.

I have a collection of used records specially for playing on old players and it doesn't matter if I wear them out.

I love my old players and hope you will enjoy a Victrola. There's nothing like the hiss of a steel needle!
