Hmmmm.............

OK.

Serious vinyl listening is done on a Garrard 301 / Michell Technoarm / Ortofon MC25FL, fixed headshell, properly aligned VTA.

Second TT is a 401 with an SME 3009/II. It plays Pathe and Edison vertical cut 78s, 108 year old Berliners, brand new LPs and everything in between.

There are 8 Shure M44s in SME S2R headshells with the appropriate retipped styli including an M44-7 for 45s. The moveable arm base is optimised for 78 replay, which also requires a different inner null point as they go closer to the spindle than vinyl and the LP settings can lead to pinch effect at narrow radii.

I also use V15-II/SAS and Audio Technica AT3100XE cartridges for what I call day-to-day vinyl listening. There's a small height difference between the V15 and an M44. The AT has a spacer to bring the height up. They have slotted mounting hole headshells so that their null points are optimised for LP.

As there is such a large difference between record thicknesses and I am not an archivist I am prepared to accept some compromise with regard to VTA on the 401. I can change headshells, recalibrate the weight and bias quickly, everything else has been set up to how I want it.

Just don't patronise me for how I want to have my fun.
