if you play old records you need different EQs.
My mono Leak Pre-amp has 4 settings, 78E (a compromise), NARTB, LP, RIAA. If a record doesn't sound right using any of these I adjust the treble or bass controls, and if the surface is noisy, I use the Varislope filter. It saves so much angst.
For stereo, mono and vertical cut try an Elberg MD12 with 12EQ curves and variable low pass and rumble filters. I have the mark 2 in my stereo system and it's a pretty damn good phono amp for playing straight stereo LPs. It also has front panel switchable MM/MC and alternative MC loading on both inputs. So two arms or two tts for your monos and or 78s. Sorted.
