on the LP Gear site and see what you mean, pity they don't do a V15-II 'cause I'd order one now. I reckon that output on some aftermarket styli is down by 5-10% and they don't have the kick-ass bass that Shures do. It's most noticeable on the M44 series which I use for 45s & 78s. The M44 series has higher output than other Shure MMs (3d excepted).
As I've been told, or read, when Shure introduced a new V15 the old version was re-branded to keep the tools working and they saved money by changing the plastic body and stylus fittings. I think it's V15 to M55E, V15II to M75ED, V15II Improved to M91ED, V15III to M95ED, V15IV to M97HE. I don't think Shure admitted this at the time as they wouldn't have sold many V15s. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
A friend has just resurrected his Michell Transcriptors Turntable with SME 3009 Improved, V15III, Quad 33/303 and ESL57s. I'm going over to listen to it tomorrow night, can't decide what records to take with me.
Thanks for the info.
