Linn LP 12 DIY power supply

I bought a used LP 12 a couple of months ago, and now it's tuning time. Opened it yesterday, wanted to adjust the springs, no big deal. The LP 12 FAQ was a great help, even got the armboard centered by swapping springs, just as recommended.

But the first thing that caught my eye when I removed the bottom plate was the power supply. Lots of components! I have had a Rega Planar 3, and AFAIR its power supply only consists of few parts. In the LP 12 FAQ there are suggestions of DIY power supplies, and it got me wondering: Can I just built the Do It Yourself Power Supply (240V, 50Hz) and have it replace the onboard one? Might be a stupid question, but I haven't got much experience when it comes to this, so bare with me if I have got it wrong.

The reason I'm considering replacing the onboard supply is to make it simpler, and because the components are old. Not being able to use the on/off switch doesn't matter as I have a little problem with it (it won't pop up). I can't tell what type of power supply it is, I'm not even quite sure I can follow the Introduction and Production Dates section of the FAQ. My serial no. is around 73,000, and according to the FAQ it could be a Valhalla.

Anybody have experience with this? Some good advice?

TIA
Kim Petersen
