He was using a late 40s portable record cutting machine and using CDs to rip from reel-to-reel to make 78 discs. It was cheaper than practising on blank acetates!!!!!!!!!! I was there and saw it.
However don't get too excited, the CDs are much more prone to wear than vinyl and only last a few playings I'm told.
There's nothing new left anymore.
