Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

You could try Shure M44 cartridges..............

I grew up with them and prefer them for 78s, they really dig out whatever bass notes are there.

Buy cheap M44 and M55 bodies on ebay and fit genuine Shure N44C styli retipped as required. The aftermarket N44-3 styli are generally very good and I do use some, but they don't seem to have very strong magnets and the output isn't as strong as the Shures. They also don't have that important flip down stylus guard that protects your investment.

The SME 3009 II not improved arm is my favourite for 78s. They track better, and usually have a larger range of tracking weights than modern straight and stiffer arms. The opposite is true for LPs.

It's best to have two separate tables for LPs and 78s, or one table and two arms, or you'll spend more time setting up than playing music.

Try direct or idler drive tables with big motors. New I'd try a modified Technics SL 1200 series or a KAB. I would change the arm longer term.

Good luck
