RE: That "middle molded piece" of plastic...

I took the middle layer off and there is nothing there but the motor housing and the deck of the table. This middle layer only makes contact with the upper deck at the points where it screws into the deck, it provides a solid frame for the bottom rubber cover to screw into. I already have 2 Rek O Kut projects ahead of me or I would try building a plinth for the SL-1200 and I would remove the rubber and the middle layer and lay it in a plinth.
