Shures and Columbias

Shure M44 retipped is way better than M78 in fact so much better I prefer it to the Stanton - and it has more clearance for warped discs. Go for M44C and track at 3 grams+.

Remember Columbia recorded on 33rpm acetates from 1939 in anticipation of the Lp. Their 78 masters were dubbings from those 33rpm master acetates - not good news. Lp or CD transfers will be better if they've also been taken from the original acetate.
