Thanks for the info about the white belt and the construction of the original belts. Which model Empire was the white belt for and do you have its exact dimensions? (Elex won't give out dimensional info on his belts and I'd prefer to be reasonably sure it will work on my 598 III before we start sending more belts backwards and forwards across the border)Calculation of the appropriate belt thickness is fairly straightforward provided you know the % speed change you want, the diameter of the drive pulley and the thickness of the current belt. My present figure for the necessary thickness is approximate for a number of reasons including that I only measured minimum speeds I get rather than middle of adjustment range for a belt. It would also help to know belt width because that affects how much adjustment will be available.
Interesting about Empire's "precision ground" statement. When you slide the belts I have through a micrometer, you can easily detect variations in thickness. I wonder if the original belts were more precise?
