I've been wrestling with getting the right belt for my Empire 598 III and not having much luck.I've tried belts from Elexetalier and Turntablebasics plus the Yamaha belt that was on the turntable when I bought it.
All have run fast. The thicker the belt, the faster the speed as predicted by Mark Kelly.
The closest so far has been a 0.65mm (0.0255in) thick belt from Turntablebasics. This belt is about 4.1mm wide and by adjusting the pulley angle I can get the speed down to about 1% fast. The other belts are all thicker so they run faster, and speed adjustment is less effective, presumably because they are wider (5.1mm)
I think that the right thickness might be about 0.6mm (0.024in) but before I start trying to track one down, it would be very helpful to know the dimensions and construction details of the original belts. Specifically:
- Were they a simple rubber belt or some kind of composite construction?
- How thick were they?
- How wide were they?David
