Rake angle and line contact an issue

The 1019 arm base does not have height adjustment and is set up so that the arm is about horizontal when half the records are on the platter. This means that rake angle and VTA are too large when you are just playing one record.

With the spherical tip cartridges in use at the time this did not matter to much but if use a line contact cartridge it is a problem.

I levelled my cartridge with a little carved cedar wedge in between the cartridge and the cartridge holder. (This did not take long) Unless you are prepared to do something similar, I would not recommend a line contact cartridge as sound is apt to be harsh and you would risk record damage. Its also desirable with an eliptical cartridge like the M97xE and may also help tracking.

BTW, Its a nice sounding combo with a 3020B and in my experience, most receivers do not sound as good.
