I have used a Grado Signature 8 (88 - 96 or so) and a Grado Platimun 96 or so til recently) cartidge with the Planar 3 and yes hum was an issue. But even with the hum I preferred the Grado over the Blue Point Special, Arcam P77 and the Rega Elys cartridges. I've been using the Dynavector 10x4 for the last couple of months and consider it to be of at least comparable quality to the Grado Platinum but without the hum.
