How about a record store close-out!

I was shopping for a nice second hand wooden desk for my wife on New Years Eve. Somehow the owner and I got talking about turntables and the she mentioned that her son's secondhand book and record store was shutting down that day because the building had been sold for redevelopment.

When I arrived they still had maybe 10000 records on the floor (literally)

It wasn't easy on the knees but I found about 40 records I wanted. Most were classical, predominantly London, Decca, RCA and Philips. One was a Supraphon which is a label I had not found before. I also picked up a couple of Vox boxed sets of piano works of Liszt and von Weber that I didn't have. Nearly all the records are in very good condition or better.

Some other items that were outside the normal run of what I find in local garage sales were.

"The exciting Gene Krupa" on Clef. Not in great condition but still terrific to listen to.

"Lincoln Mayorga and Distinguished Colleagues" on Sheffield in excellent condition.

"Music to listen to KLH by" in excellent condition.

I paid $C35 for the 40 records and could have probably bought them for less but he was a nice guy and it just didn't feel right to take advantage of the situation. I just wish that I had known about this clear-out a few weeks ago before vitually all of the jazz had gone. Still I'm not complaining.

David
