I'm trying to sort out this mess. I've been using a Fisher tube integrated amp with Telefunken preamp tubes in the phono stage. My turntable is a JA Michell Hydraulic Reference w/fluid arm and a Shure V15 III cartridge. The sound is extremely forward and tends to be lean and thin...sometimes irritating. This puzzles me because I thought the V15 III was supposed to be very warm and full. My turntable sounds anything but warm and full.A friend of mine brought over his Thorens TD 125 w/ Shure V15 VxMR and it sounded completely different....much more bass and body, but seemed to not quite have the midrange presence of mine. Trouble is I don't know where to start here. Is it my phono stage? Tonearm? Cartridge? Table? I really want to keep my table, but if I have to I'll have to get something else. That's another problem. A full sounding, extremely musical audiophile deck?? Linn LP12? Thorens? Which cart?? HELP!!!!
