As you say, a removeable headshell's coupling adds mass where it has the greatest impact on increasing the effective mass of the tonearm. All else being equal, I prefer a removeable arm-wand with its coupling close to the pivot where the coupling's mass has minimal effect on the effective mass of the tonearm.This is however not directly related to the tonearm shape. You can have an S shape with a fixed headshell or a straight tonearm with a removeable headshell.
