Are they steppers?

The description on the Origin Live website, though it seems to dance around it, seems to be that of a stepper motor. In the picture the motor looks too small to be a high-torque DC. Stepper motors can vibrate just as much as AC motors, as they aren't continuously spinning, but moving in small increments very quickly. It makes extremely precise speed control pretty easy, however.

The other problem I see on their site (from the FAQ):

> Will upgrading the motor and power supply really make such a massive difference? - The reviews and owner comments of the web site will put this concern to rest whether your deck is a Linn LP12 (Lingo, Armageddon, Valhulla etc.) or a Rega Planar 2.

Anecdotal evidence? If this thing kills AC motor induced vibration, a simple audio measurement should show a reduction in 30/60/120Hz hum.

I always thought an ideal turntable motor setup would be a high torque stepper motor that starts the platter and brings it up to speed, then, once the platter gets to the correct speed determined by feedback to the stepper controller, a DC servo takes over, which is then constantly calibrated by the feedback created by the stepper.
