The answer depends more on your phono stage. Besides the high (5mV) and the low (0.5mV) options, Grado will also make a medium output (1.5mV), which is a good match for medium-gain tubed phono stages, e.g. the ARC PH-3 (54db). I had them make me a 1.5mV Sonata in a mono configuration, and it works great on my Aries/JMW. No Grado hum, no Grado dance. Any of the retailers can have Grado do it as a special order.
