We agree on one thing. This isn't going anywhere useful.

I guess i'm not going to persuade you whatever I say, and you are not going to persuade me unless you listen to the component and compare it to similar cost alternatives or you explain why your theory is relevant in this case.

WRT the link you posted. I was too busy to respond at the time but John's position seems quite reasonable considering that he is someone to whom a decent sounding $200 cartridge is a bargain. A $150 cost difference compared to a $50 stylus does not appear to be a significant issue to him and as he says, it removes at least one possible uncertainty. Not every one asking about cartridges however, has the same budget.

John's point about the subjective nature of opinions on the sound of different cartridges is of course correct. Unfortunately it's still the primary means we have of comparing them. Even John's excellent efforts to compare cartridges more objectively ultimately come back to how people think they sound. The extensive technical discussions are in large part an attempt to understand and explain the differences that he and others hear.
