The replacement stylus assembly contains all components that are likely to suffer with age including the suspension.
A MM cartridge body should be less susceptible to degradation over time than any other stereo component I can think of. Certainly less likely to deteriorate than a turntable.
In getting the new stylus you are ending up with a cartridge that will probably sound better than when it was new because the new stylus uses the same line contact diamond as the V15VxMR.
I have seen some reports from people who prefer it to the V15VxMR but I have never compared them myself. Based on fairly extensive comparison, I much prefer it to the M97xE.
If you check on ebay, you will find that there is still a strong market for the V15III cartridges so in the unlikely event that someone didn't like it, it would be very easy to resell for far more than the cost of the replacement stylus.
