This sounds like a big step back to me. I like the V15III with a VN35MR replacement stylus ($50 from Shure) a lot better than the Sumiko Blue Point Special which sounds shrill to me. How the Pearl compares, I hate to think!I would look elsewhere for the problem. Checking your system details, your room with concrete walls and a tile floor is going to produce exactly the problem you describe. Is this where you have been listening to the Shure?
I would also check the rake angle on the stylus. Lowering the base of the arm will reduce rake angle and make a cartridge sound less bright Setting the arm level is no guarantee that the set up is correct because of manufacturing variations between stylii.
