Re: Rega spacer suggestion

Before buying any spacers, I would first try to find out how much you need to raise the base of the arm.

For this I would use some hi-tech equipment. ie paper, cardboard, and scissors.

First I would cut out some spacers in cardboard to raise the arm by a bit more than I thought I would need (say 5mm)

Next I would cut out some other spacers to fit below the platter and on top of the rotating plastic platform that supports the platter. They need to be about 4" dia with a 3/4" center hole. By adjusting the number and thickness of these spacers you can raise the platter by anything from 0 to 5mm or beyond.

The advantage of this approach is that it is much quicker and easier to change spacers under the platter, than spacers (shims) under the arm and it should enable you to zero in on the right SRA / VTA for your particular cartridge and VTF. (Different samples of the same cartridge are likely to be different)

Once you have done this, you can deduct the thickness of the platter spacers from the thickness of the arm spacers to see what shim you need under the arm when there is no spacer under the platter.

Even though you will have the same SRA/VTA, it may sound different with 1) a metal spacer under the arm, or 2) a cardboard/paper spacer under the arm, or 3) a cardboard/paper spacer under each. What you prefer may depend on personal taste and the rest of your equipment but the paper/cardboard spacers will provide a little damping and don't be surprised if you like them better.

regards

David
