Phono capacitance measurement

I want to check the capacitance on the phono input of my preamp am not sure how to go about it.

I have a multimeter that will read capacitance down to a resolution of 10pF.

Checking my different interconnects, I get readings that are generally between 70pF and 140pF plus one (terrible sounding) interconnect at 280pF. These readings seem sensible to me.

Checking the tonearm wiring (SME IIIs) I get a zero reading (cartridge disconnected). This also seems possible as the wires are very fine and capacitance could presumably be less than 10pF.

Trying to check the preamp on the phono RCA inputs, the reading bounces all over the place. What should I do?

Thanks for any help.

David
